Work on the third full length by Indianapolis based THE GATES OF SLUMBER has been finished and the masterpiece will be released by us in Europe at the end of May/early June while our comrades at Profound Lore unleash the album on May 19 th in the US.
There’s not a shadow of a doubt in our minds that Conqueror will prove to be the best TRUE METAL album released during 2008! Already unchallenged in the field of epic old schooled Heavy/Doom on the merits of their monumental debut Awakening and the follow up Suffer No Guilt this one is clearly TGOS most glorious moment - and none shall defy!
The epic song writing has developed into new territories of grandeur, even tapping into the vibe created by Manowar on Into Glory Ride…still the nature of the songs is more precise and to the point this time around - Conqueror categorically hits where it hurts the most and leave no room for doubt. The hooks and memorable refrains are tempered steel, Karl Simon sings more from his heart than ever and lets it all hang out through his ripping guitar soloing while bassist Jason McCash and drummer Bob Fouts provides an amazingly rock solid, yet elaborate, rhythm section. All this wrapped up in Sanford Parker ‘s (Unearthly Trance, Nachtmystium, Pelican etc.) mighty production, which is as warm and natural as it is heavy, and this without the use of triggers and digital processing, as opposed to many contemporary recordings. Short and sweet, Conqueror is the definition of True Metal, now and forever!
